Cold sits and dark walk-ins punish thin layers and empty pockets. This cold weather hunting gear checklist covers base layers, insulation, boots and gloves, a pack you can sit with, and light you can trust—not a weapons list. Print it before a cold sit.
Skip any group that doesn’t fit your hunt. Check the rest the night before.

Dry socks at the sit. Changing out of damp hike socks is the cheapest warmth upgrade on the list.
Gloves that still work when wet. Pack a spare pair. One dunk in snow or a sweaty walk can leave you without working fingers for the rest of the morning.
Headlamp batteries checked the night before. Put fresh power in before opening day of a cold stretch, and carry a spare set against your body.
A sit pad. Jacket insulation collapses under your weight. A pad keeps the cold from leaking straight through.
A plan for the walk out in the dark. Mark the route, keep the headlamp where you can reach it with gloves on, and tell someone where you’re hunting and when you’ll be back.
